Description: Elsa, the daughter of the Earl of Arcole, is going to die soon due to a serious sickness. One day, while attending Mass in a small church, she hears someone playing Gounod’s Ave Maria, and desires to know the violinist personally. The Earl of Arcole invites the young musician Janko to join them at the villa; and during a romantic encounter on the lake at night, he falls in love with Elsa. But the cold of the night worsens the health of Elsa, forcing her to bed. While she is dying, Janko plays for the last time the divine melody. The same night he drowns himself in the lake. The video is a copy from the film print held by the Museo Nazionale del Cinema and previously restored by the EYE Filmmuseum: 35mm, positive, acetate, 147 m, 8’ at 18 fps, colour (Desmetcolor), Dutch intertitles, silent.
